How do I update Samsung My Files?

Check the Galaxy Store's Updates list first, then the Play Store's — My Files is listed in both, and Samsung's own troubleshooting says to look in either. Its crash guide puts it this way: "check for an update to the app using the Play Store or Galaxy Store" (App is crashing or not working on Samsung phone or tablet, US edition, read 25 September 2026).

From the Galaxy Store

Samsung's steps: "Open the Galaxy Store , then tap Menu (the three horizontal lines) in the bottom right corner, and then tap Updates", then tap the circling arrow next to one app or Update all. Samsung stresses that these are separate from your Play Store updates — "You will need to update these apps separately from your Play Store apps" — and that "A Samsung account is required to access the Galaxy Store" (Manage app updates on a Samsung Galaxy device, US edition, read 25 September 2026).

To stop doing this by hand, the same page puts automatic updates behind the Menu: tap the gear icon, then Auto update apps, and choose a setting.

From the Play Store

My Files also has a Google Play listing, "Samsung My Files" by Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (Samsung My Files - Apps on Google Play, read 25 September 2026). Samsung's route there: "Open the Play Store , tap your profile picture , and then tap Manage apps & device", then "Tap Updates available" and update the one app or all of them (the updates page above).

Which store is yours?

Samsung does not say. Neither the updates page nor the crash guide tells you which store delivers My Files updates on a particular phone — both simply name the two stores (both pages cited above). Checking both costs a minute. If only one lists My Files among its updates, that is your answer for now.

If the new version is worse

Preinstalled apps can sometimes go back. From the updates page: "If an app updates, but you like the old version better, you can uninstall the update to revert to the previous version" — Settings › Apps, pick the app, the three-dot menu, Uninstall updates. Samsung's note on that section is short: "This option is only available for some preinstalled apps." Removing My Files itself is a different matter; Samsung does not allow it.

If the update will not install

For the Play Store, Samsung describes a fix for "some rare cases in Android 10 or 11": Settings › Apps › Google Play Store › Storage › Clear data. It warns what that costs: "Doing this will clear some of your Play Store settings like parental controls, auto-update preferences, etc." (the updates page above). The crash guide adds one more check — the Google Play system update under About phone › Software information — which is worth doing first. And if My Files is crashing rather than refusing to update, start with the crash fixes.
