How do I find my screenshot folder?

There are three different answers depending on what you are holding — the gallery, a file manager, or a computer — and they all point at the same folder.

In the gallery

Android's own help (read 22 September 2026) gives the route: "Open the Photos app. At the bottom, tap Collections and then On this device and then Screenshots." For an older phone without that app it adds: "Open your phone's Gallery app and tap Album view and then Screenshots folder."

This is the fastest way to see them, and it is not the same thing as finding the folder — a gallery album is a view, and deleting from it deletes the file, while hiding the album does nothing to your storage.

In a file manager

Open Files by Google or your phone's own file app, go to internal storage, and the screen captures folder sits inside the pictures folder — a sibling of the camera folder rather than inside it. That separation is deliberate on Android's part: screen captures are filed away from photographs so that one does not bury the other.

A few makers put it elsewhere, so if it is not where you expect, search the file manager for "screenshot" rather than hunting folder by folder. The path, in more detail.

From a computer

This is the one worth knowing if you take a lot of them. Android's help documents the steps (read 22 September 2026): "With a USB cable, connect your device to your computer", then "On your device, tap the 'Charging this device via USB' notification", and "Under 'Use USB for,' select File Transfer". The folder then appears in your computer's own file browser, where selecting several hundred at once is a drag rather than a chore. The whole connection routine.

Why the folder gets so big

Screen captures are free to make and nobody ever revisits them. A full-screen capture is a lossless-ish image of a bright screen, which compresses badly, so a few thousand of them add up to real storage — and they are the safest large category to lose, because almost every one was made to solve a problem that is now solved.

They are also the category that makes a gallery unusable: a year of captures interleaved with your photographs is why scrolling back to a holiday takes so long. What is actually filling the phone.
