# How do I organize screenshots on Android? — Adinand Auto File Sorter

**Android already files every screenshot in one place, so organizing them is not really a folder problem. It is three choices: which captures you want to find again, which ones you want out of your photo timeline, and which ones can go.** Google Photos handles the first two, Files by Google the third. Where the folder sits on the phone has [a page of its own](https://adinandsorter.com/answers/where-are-screenshots-saved-on-android).

## Give the keepers an album
A boarding pass, a recipe, an address someone sent you: these are worth an album named after what they are. Google's steps are short. "Touch and hold a photo, and then select the photos you want in your new album", tap **Add to album**, add a title if you like, then **Done**. Once you have a few, the albums list under **Collections › Albums** can be re-ordered with **Sort by**: "Album title", "Last modified" or "Most recent photo" ([*Create & edit photo albums*, Google Photos Help](https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6128849?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid), read 14 October 2026). An album does not move the file. The original stays where Android's help says to look for it: "Collections On this device Screenshots" in the Photos app ([*Take a screenshot or record your screen on your Android device*, Android Help](https://support.google.com/android/answer/9075928?hl=en), read 14 October 2026).

## Get the rest out of your photo timeline
Most captures are worth keeping for a while but not worth scrolling past. Google Photos has two tools for that.

**Archive.** Open a screenshot, tap **More › Archive**. Google says an archived item "Will still be in any albums that they were added to, search results, and folders on your device", and you reach it later under **Collections › Archive** ([*Move photos to archive*, Google Photos Help](https://support.google.com/photos/answer/7362432?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid), read 14 October 2026). Archiving is per picture; that page does not offer a way to archive every screenshot automatically.

**Hide clutter.** On the Photos view settings, with "Show content from other apps" on, one choice is "Hide clutter from apps: Backed up photos from other apps like screenshots, GIFs, and memes, are hidden from your Photos view" ([*Organize your Photos view*, Google Photos Help](https://support.google.com/photos/answer/14169846?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid), read 14 October 2026). Note the word *backed up* in Google's sentence: the setting is described for backed-up photos.

Whether screenshots back up at all is a folder switch. Under **Photos settings › Backup › Back up device folders**, Google tells you to "Tap the folders you want to back up" and switch the others off ([*Back up photos & videos*, Google Photos Help](https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6193313?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid), read 14 October 2026). Our suggestion: if your screenshots are mostly throwaway, leave that folder off and keep your cloud storage for photographs.

## Clear the old ones on a schedule of your own
Files by Google has a card for exactly this pile. Under **Clean**, the "Old screenshots" card offers **Select files**, and Google describes it as covering screenshots "created or received more than 4 weeks ago" ([*Delete your screenshots*, Files by Google Help](https://support.google.com/files/answer/9808842?hl=en), read 14 October 2026). You still pick each file, and what you pick goes to Trash first. Once a month is a reasonable rhythm. If something you expected has gone instead, [the usual causes are listed here](https://adinandsorter.com/answers/why-are-my-screenshots-disappearing).

## Real folders, if you want them
Albums live inside Google Photos. If you want captures in actual folders, for example to copy them to a computer, Files by Google moves several at once: select them in a category, tap **More › Move to**, "Tap Internal storage", choose the folder and tap **Move here** ([*Move files to an existing folder in Internal storage*, Files by Google Help](https://support.google.com/files/answer/9808833?hl=en), read 14 October 2026). [Making the folder first.](https://adinandsorter.com/answers/create-a-folder-on-an-android-phone) A moved screenshot no longer sits in the Screenshots folder, so expect it to leave that album in your gallery.

## Automating the move with Adinand Auto File Sorter
If moving captures out by hand is the part you would rather not do, this is a case the app covers, with conditions. On Pro, Screenshots is one of its watched-folder presets (offered only when that folder exists on your phone, and watched folders need Android 11 or newer). Screenshots in it then go to the `Images` category of one central output folder, `Downloads › Sorted Files` unless you choose another in Settings. A Pro custom rule can split them further: an "Older than (days)" condition with the `png` and `jpg` extensions sends captures past that age to a folder you name, while newer ones still go to `Images`, because a file no rule claims goes to its category. Age is counted from the file's last-modified date. A rule looks at name, extension, age and size, not at which folder a file came from, so it applies to matching files in Downloads too. It never makes albums, and every sort is listed in Sort History.
