# How do I organize photos on an Android phone? — Adinand Auto File Sorter

**Your photos exist in two systems at the same time: real folders on storage, and albums inside a gallery app.** Most confusion about organising Android photos comes from editing one and expecting the other to change.

## The folders, and what puts things in them <ul> <li>`DCIM/Camera` — what your camera takes, and the one folder every gallery app agrees about. ## Albums are a layer on top, not a move <p>In Google Photos, creating an album does not move a file anywhere — it is a label. Deleting an album does not delete the photos, and adding a photo to two albums does not duplicate it. Folder work, by contrast, is real: moving a file changes what every app sees. Decide which you are doing before you start, because "I organised my photos and now they are gone from the gallery" is almost always a folder move that a gallery has not rescanned yet.</p>

## A structure that survives <p>Keep camera output where it is — everything expects `DCIM/Camera`, and we don't move it. Do the organising in albums, which are cheap, reversible and searchable. Reserve folder moves for the bulk categories you want *out* of the gallery entirely: received chat media, downloaded images, memes. That distinction keeps the gallery about your life and the file system about storage.</p>

## Where Adinand Auto File Sorter fits — and what it is not <p>It is a file tool, not a photo manager. It has no idea what is in a picture: no faces, no places, no albums, and no reading of the date a photo was taken — and it does not watch your camera folder. What it does is sweep a watched folder — Downloads by default — and move anything with an image extension into `Downloads › Sorted Files › Images`, which is exactly the bulk-category job above and nothing more.</p> <p>It sorts only files sitting directly in a watched folder, never inside sub-folders; it decides by file extension alone; and it never deletes or overwrites — a name collision becomes `name (1).ext`. For the pictures you care about, use a gallery's albums; for the hundreds you did not choose to receive, this keeps them out of the way.</p>
