# Can Samsung Secure Folder hide apps? — Adinand Auto File Sorter Last reviewed: September 28, 2026. For something lighter, One UI can simply hide apps from the home and Apps screens; on other Android 15 phones the equivalent is Google's private space. ## What Secure Folder does with an app

Samsung's guide makes the promise and describes the mechanism in the same section. The promise: "If you add the app to Secure Folder, no one will even know it is on your device except you." The mechanism: inside the folder, tap Add apps, pick the app, tap Add — "You'll see a copy of the app in your Secure Folder" ([*Use the Secure Folder on your Galaxy phone or tablet*](https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS10001401/), read 28 September 2026).

That word *copy* matters. The page does not say what happens to the original app outside the folder; it is silent on that. Our suggestion: after adding an app, check your Apps screen. If the ordinary version is still there, the app is not hidden yet — only a second, locked copy exists.

Notifications are the other giveaway. Secure Folder's settings include "Notifications: Allow notifications from apps in Secure Folder to be displayed even when Secure Folder is locked" (same Samsung page). Leave that off for anything you want truly out of sight.

## Hiding Secure Folder itself

Samsung gives three ways, all on the guide above. Swipe down with two fingers and tap the Secure Folder tile to hide or unhide it; or go to Settings, Security and privacy, More security settings, Secure Folder, and turn off Add Secure Folder to Apps screen; or keep it visible under another name — inside the folder, More options, then Customize lets you "change the app's name, color, and icon".

Two limits from the same page. "Secure Folder can only be accessed on your phone or tablet. It cannot be accessed from the web or a computer." And the lock is only as recoverable as you make it: "If you did not activate Reset with Samsung account when you set your security method, you will not be able to recover access to your Secure Folder."

## The lighter option: hide apps on Home and Apps screens

If you only want an icon out of the way, One UI has a setting for exactly that: touch and hold an empty spot on the home screen, tap Settings, then Hide apps on Home and Apps screens, and tap the apps. Samsung is clear that this is tidying rather than security — "You can navigate to your Apps screen, and then type the app's name into the search bar to find and open your hidden app(s)" ([*Access and organize the apps on your Galaxy phone*](https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS10001342/), read 28 September 2026). Anyone who knows the name can open it.

## Not a Samsung? Private space on Android 15

Google's version is private space: Settings, Security & privacy, then Private space under "Privacy". When it is locked, its apps are "Not searchable in the quick search bar" and "Hidden from the launcher, recent views, sharing apps like photopicker and docs UI, and Settings". Locking also stops them: they are "Completely stopped. These apps can’t perform foreground or background activities, like showing notifications" ([*Hide sensitive apps with private space*](https://support.google.com/android/answer/15341885?hl=en), read 28 September 2026).

Google lists where the space can still be detected — including "Others who install apps on your phone", anyone who can connect the phone to a computer, and "Device logs". And deleting it is final: "The app and its data are deleted with no backup."

## Before you rely on it

Whichever you use, treat the hidden place as the only copy of what is in it. Samsung's Secure Folder settings now say "Secure Folder no longer supports backing up data" (Samsung guide above), and uninstalling Secure Folder is how you "remove all of its contents".
